Was Kichloo lobbying for PDP mandate? | 'Mehbooba Mufti turns down proposal' | | Akshay Azad
Jammu, July 18: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and Minister of State for Industries, Home and R&B, Sajad Ahmed Kichloo is learnt to have lobbied hard to get mandate from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he intended to join before the ensuing assembly polls. Reliable sources informed that after a hectic lobbying the proposal of NC leader was, however, rejected by the PDP, President Mehbooba Mufti, who was not ready "to resort to horse trading" before the next assembly elections. Sources further said that Kichloo was informed by his close aides and officers from Home department, that he was facing severe anti-incumbency factor in his home constituency Kishtwar, where PDP and BJP have made inroads over the last decade. Kichloo has won from Kishtwar constituency for the consecutive two terms. The seat was earlier being represented in the state assembly by his father Bashir Ahmed Kichloo. "Following the inputs from Home department, Kichloo and his close advisors came to the conclusion that it was the right time to join PDP, which is expected to form the next government in Jammu and Kashmir", sources claimed adding, "The minister was not initially inclined towards the opposition party but the suggestion from the advisors made him to concede. He had expressed desire to mull the option and asked his friends to start lobbying with PDP top-brass". It was being believed that Kichloo can get easy win if he contest from the PDP as there would be hardly any candidate available for the NC to field against him from the constituency, sources said. "By this way Kichloo wanted to counter anti-incumbancy as well as polarization by BJP", they said. If the sources are further to be believed the advisors and friends of Kichloo had at least three rounds of negotiations with the PDP top brass in Srinagar and it was signaled that the minister would resign from the government and party, well before the upcoming assembly polls. "The PDP leaders were initially excited about the proposal as it would have benefited the party across the state", sources said adding, "However, the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti turned down the proposal at the last movement". The PDP president is said to have even by-passed the recommendations of the party patron and her father Mufti Muhammad Sayed. "She said no to the proposal and instead advised the party leaders not to encourage any kind of horse trading", sources revealed. |
