Srinagar, July 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been summoned to New Delhi by Home Minister Rajnath Singh over today's violence in Baltal which left about 60 civilians and policemen injured. The issue has caused anxiety in the power corridors of the state and also the Centre. Sources told ET that Home Minister Rajnath Singh summoned the CM to New Delhi late this evening. The CM flew to New Delhi in the state aircraft. Sources said that the state administration is hoping that the situation does not take an ugly turn, as the annual Amarnath Yatra is on in full flow. It is learnt that the state administration is apprehensive that vested interests from either side may try to fan the flames for their ulterior ends. Earlier in the day, a clash took place between two Yatra service providers at the Baltal base camp. About 60 persons were injured in the incident including CRPF personnel, policemen and civilians. Following the incident, Governor NN Vohra, who is also the Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, asked the Board's Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Kumar Gupta to immediately proceed to the Baltal camp and restore law and order with the help of the district administration. He also discussed the matter with the CM. Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Shailendra Kumar and IGP Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir also rushed to the camp site to ensure immediate restoration of peace. |
