At both the places, angry people held anti-government protests, amidst raising of slogans. "There was a mild protest by locals but the situation is peaceful," a police official said adding that no incident of violence was reported today from anywhere in Kathua. Security personnel have been deployed in the district to avoid any untoward incident. Several political and Hindu organisations including BJP, VHP, Bajrang Dal, and Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) also condemned the sacrilegious act and held demonstrations against the Omar-led government at several places in Kathua. The transport remained off the roads and markets wore a deserted look. Protests were also held in Billawar, Bani, Hiranagar and Basohli areas Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) held a demonstration in front of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, demanding stern action against those who "indulge in such acts to spoil the peaceful atmosphere". The protest was led by district president of Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray), Narinder Tangri, BJP's Prem Nath Dogra, Bajrang Dal's Davinder Sharma and VHP's Karan Singh. Meanwhile, the news of sacrilegious act near Batote in Ramban also sparked off protests with people holding demonstrations in Batote, Kud and Patnitop areas. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed along the highway and the hilly areas of Ramban and Udhampur districts to foil any untoward incident. |
