Water crisis deepens in Kishtwar, people enter in verbal spat with MoS Home | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Kishtwar, July 31: The water crisis in Kishtwar district took an ugly turn late last night when the people of village Cherhar and Berwar entered in open fight with Minister of State for Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo over the issue of water crisis, caused by illegal connections from gravity line en-route to these two villages having population of over 2000 souls. As per the reports, the inhabitants of village Cherhar and Berwar had a verbal spat and war of words with concern minister who was on tour of the village along with Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan and other district officers. The villagers accused PHE officials of providing illegal water connection to local business units and influential persons through illegal means and threaten protest in case the issue was not address by the administration. After open spat with public, MoS Home left the place in anger and slammed the PHE officials for mess in distribution of water, despite availability of sufficient water from Naigard, two water lifting schemes, Lalla water supply and Gudrashnag water supply scheme. He directed DC Kishtwar to take stern action against the guilty employees whose illegal action caused law and order threat in the district. While talking to "Early Times" the people from different parts of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas including Hidyal, Matta, Dugga, Sarkoot, Poochal, Sangrabata, Hullar, Malipath, link road and other areas of the district complaint about the non-availability of water in their respective areas. "Poochal is the densely populated village in Kishtwar District having population of over 5000 souls--- the village remains without water supply for weeks together--- courtesy illegal water connection from main gravity line providing water supply to the village" said Ghulam Mohidin Giri resident of village. He said that there is immediate need to remove all illegal connections from 5 KM long gravity line supply water to reservoirs in the village. He said that due to illegal hooking, the pressure of water supply drops and the reservoirs remain empty causes acute water crises in the village. A group of over 30 women from Hidyal village today also created uproar inside the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and blamedthe PHE officials for ignoring repeated directions from the chair. They informed the DC Kishtwar that despite his directions last week, the PHE officials fails to provide drinking water to them inhabitants of Hidyal forcing them to approach him 2nd time in last one week. Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar today directed Tehsildar Kishtwar and SHO Kishtwar to conduct the probe into the illegal hooking from gravity lines and to check use of electric motors for pumping water from main lines with the direction to SHO Kishtwar to registered an FIR against the guilty officials/officers of PHE department and also the people involved in illegal means under relevant sections of law. DC Kishtwar also slammed senior PHE officials including SE Hydraulic Doda for showing lethargic approach in addressing the public crises that has caused a law and order problem in trouble hit district of the state. He also directed the senior PHE officials to mark the entry into the service book record of non performer and officials found guilty of illegal means. |
