Tankers drivers call off strike; security assured, relief paid | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 1: The tanker drivers strike was today called off after the authorities assured security to them and also paid the compensation to two of the drivers suffered injuries after allegedly thrashed by some miscreants in the Kashmir Valley. The tanker drivers had yesterday announced indefinite strike in view of beating of their two men in Kashmir. "We have called off the strike this evening as the senior police officers and the administration has assured us full security and stern action against the culprits in future," a tanker drivers leader said. He said that the protesting drivers had a detailed meeting with the IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu and also spoke to the IGP Kashmir. "They have assured us the security arrangements for the drivers visiting the Valley," he added. He further said that Rs 25,000 each has also been paid as relief to the injured rivers by the IGP Jammu and on behalf of the Red Cross Society |
