BIZARRE: Politicians visit China on JU's expenses | Authorities admit Rs 8.7 lacs spent for tour | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, Sept 11: More skeletons are tumbling out from the cup-board of irregularities happened Prof Amitabh Mattoo's tenure as VC, as three Politicians visited China on University's expenses. Documents in possession of Early Times reveals that in November 2007, three Politicians of Jammu region including, an JU academician had enjoyed foreign visit. The documents further read that the visit was proposed following, a visit of JU's two professors. "The visit was made in development following a trip of JU's two Professors (RD Sharma then Rector of Kathua Campus and Prof IA Hamal then Rector of Bhaderwah Campus), to explore the possibilities of collaborating programmes to be run in the campus", an official communication between former VC, JU Prof Varun Sahni and Governor Office read. "These people (politicians) visited China in November 2007, to explore possibilities of offering new course other than B. Ed courses already offered in the private affiliated colleges were sent to China through, The India China Alliance Centre." The communication read, adding that the primary objective of the visit was familiarization with the current scenario in China particularly in the field of education. Contradicting, the sources claimed that the expenditure occurred during said visit remained fruitless, since such activity was made in the campus till date. "Since authorities had claimed, the visit was also an opportunity to explore collaborative arrangements with top of the line Chinese Universities covering student and faculty exchange, joint research and joint proragmes", sources said, declining JUs claims, "No such activity and any special centre has been created in the campus." They further claimed that adjustment of advance funds released for the visit, has not been settled so far. |
