Bills of contractors, businessmen remain uncleared as treasuries run dry | | | Akshay Azad JAMMU, Sept 11: The treasuries across Jammu province are reportedly running dry, creating hurdles for the businessmen to run their daily business in the winter capital of state, while the liabilities of contractors/businessman have touched several Crores rupees. Some businessmen informed Early Times that they have not been getting their liabilities cleared by Department of Treasuries as their officers have been claiming of shortage of funds. "How we can run our business. We have cheques worth more than Rs. 80 Lakhs given by government but where we can cash these cheques as whenever we went to a treasury office they simply replied that there is no money", a contractor said. He further maintained that without getting payments it has become impossible for them to purchase raw material and making payments to labourers on routine basis. "Some days back we had gone to treasury and the clerk was claiming that it was due to flood fury in Kashmir valley that the payments have not been made", he said and while criticizing the state government added that for the last more than one month same problem existed. Another businessman alleged that the coalition government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has deliberately been ignoring the businessman of Jammu province. An office bearer of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) pleading anonymity said that they have been getting complaints from the businessmen in Jammu province about the delay in payments for the last more than one and half month. "The problem persists for the last around one and half month and sometimes treasuries made payments but the problem remain as it is", he said, adding that it might be due to delay in the release of annual plan fund by Union government. He further said that generally the annual plan was released by Union government in the month of July or August but first week of September has elapsed but there was no possibility of plan release, so the problem existed. An official in Treasury office Jammu informed that all the treasuries were running dry adding, even the pension and salary of employees was not released by the government. When contacted Director Treasuries Jammu, Lochan Dass today afternoon, the personal assistance firstly informed that he was busy in a meeting and asked for calling after few minutes but when after only five minutes this correspondent called in the office, the personal assistance informed that Director had left the office. |
