23000 people rescued, 83 relief camps serving flood victims : Div Com 9/12/2014 1:13:25 AM Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 11 : In its endeavor to extend relief and rehabilitation services to flood victims , the divisional dispensation has rescued and shifted about 23000 people to safer places including 83 relief camps set up for the purpose. Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu informed this while addressing a press conference here today. "All relief and rehabilitation measures are being carried out on war footing to save the people from further loss besides vital services like power supply and road connectivity is being restored", he added. IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar, who was also present on the occasion, informed that Police, administration and army are making coordinated efforts to reach out to the people and provide them relief. Divisional Commissioner informed that about 153 deaths were reported across Jammu division and efforts are on to trace the dead bodies of landslide victims in Panchari and bus accident in Nowshera. As many as, 20000 houses have been partially or completely damaged while about 2500 livestock have been perished. He, however, maintained that a comprehensive loss assessment is being carried out by the concerned authorities. Divisional Commissioner informed that about 75 tone food items have been sent to Kashmir besides the men and machinery in District Police Lines have been mobilized to deal with the situation arisen due to these floods. IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar informed that strenuous efforts are on to restore the road links within a week while National Highway has been restored for light motor vehicles. He said that a team headed by DDC Reasi and DIG Udhampur will assess the situation in Panchari to take adequate steps to trace the dead bodies in Panchari and speed up the rehabilitation process.
