Alleging police inaction in 'Lakhnapur Shootout', locals stage protest

Kathua, Sept 17: Resenting alleged lackadaisical attitude of police in regard to firing incidence in Truck Union on Tuesday, a large number of locals from Rajbagh blocked National Highway at Rajbagh on Wednesday.
Raising slogans against police, the protestors from Rajbagh and adjoining areas erected blockades and also burnt tyres on maim road to disrupt the normal traffic in staged protest, raising slogans against police administration.
The protesters alleged that an the President of Kathua Truck Operator Union Kuldeep Singh Kingu open fired on the opponent truck operators in the union premises resulting into the death of one government employee present on the occasion and injuring two truck operators, on Tuesday. One of the protesters, Joginder Singh said that since 2008, the truck operators were demanding of elections and several times, union members though have met with SSP and DDC Kathua in this regard and had demanded for early elections.
Alleging Police and District administration responsible for the cause, the protesters said that this is not the first time that President and his anti-social elements attacked on his rivals, he said earlier on March 7, 2014, President and his associates had attacked there group members with sharp edged weapons resulting into serious injuries. Alleging the district administration, another protestor said that it is all due to the negligence attitude of administration and police the members of union are left to face ire of dictates of hooligans in union.
After receiving the news of road blockade, SSP Kathua Mohan Lal, SDPO Diwakar Singh, DySP Kuljeet Singh rushed to the spot. SSP Kathua assured protesters that police has arrested some persons in this regard and manhunt is on to nab Kuldeep Singh Kingu. After, getting assurance from senior police officer, the protesters lifted their protest but with a warning resorting to agitation path if police fails to fulfill the assurance.
