Ahead of polls, 2000 companies of para-military forces arrive in JK

Jammu, Nov 8: To ensure free and fair polls in Jammu Kashmir, additional companies of the para-military forces have started arriving in the state. Highly placed sources confirmed arrival of 2,000 additional companies of paramilitary forces..In all about 6,000 additional companies of paramilitary forces have been sanctioned by the union Ministry of Home against the demand of 7,000 companies. Official sources said that men of the 2,000 companies who have reached Jammu and Srinagar have been sent to 15 Assembly segments where the polling was slated under phase one on November 25.In all the election is to be complete d in five phases against seven phases in 2008. Sources said that heavy deployment has been made in and around those polling stations which have been declared as hyper sensitive and sensitive. According to the sources, out of 10005 polling booths 6250 polling stations have been declared sensitive and hypersensitive. In reply to a question a senior police officer said that the Union Home Ministry has deployed 20 companies of ITBP for providing security cover to polling stations in four Assembly segments in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh province. He said that the first phase of poll process was to be completed in 15 Assembly constit uencies in seven districts of Bandipore, Ganderbal(in Kashmir), Kargil and Leh districts(In Ladakh), Kishtwar, Dod a and Ramban districts in (Jammu). He said that the remaining 4,000 additional companies of paramilitary forces were reaching Jammu and Srinagar shortly for deployment to various constituencies. Apart from providing foolproof security cover in and around polling stations troops, guarding the LOC and the IB ,have been told to remain on the alert following reports that agencies across the border, including Pak Army, were trying to push groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir for raising the level of violence which was needed for enforcing separatists' call for poll boycott.
