Cong expects good show by fielding `tainted' candidates

Srinagar, Nov 8: Most of the candidates named in the second list issued by Congress party recently are `tainted'. However, the party expects a good show through them.
The much awaited second list of candidates of congress which came up with some faces like Hilal Shah of Anantnag according to sources was a militant initially and had later joined one Ikhwan battalion, Nizam-ud-Din for Kulgam District is a former bank employee who was later terminated from his services for some unknown reasons, Muhstaq Ahmad Khanday of Shopian is former Personal Assistant of senior Congress leader Taj Mohi-ud-Din,Maroof Ahmad another little known face for Wachi Constituency who replaced close relative Peerzada Mohammad Sayed instead any development has further ignited internal bickering within state Congress and instead gaining any vote bank is making inroads for opposition leaders due to differences between him and Nazir Ahmad Shah and others.
Sources said that Fayaz Ahmad who has been fielded from Rajpora is also a former Ikhwani and a close aide of Taj Mohi-ud-din replaced District President of Pulwama, Advocate Abdul Gani who joined People’s Democratic Party (PDP) minutes after he came to know from Delhi that he has been replaced by a former ikhwani and in Tral Constituency where Congress replaced Surinder Singh Chani with Ghulam Mohammad Mir has to face tough times against its opponents as the area where Minority Sikh vote bank always plays a vital role in the fate of a candidate is all set cast their votes to any candidate other than Congress following the fresh development in 1984 Sikh riots case of Delhi.
From Eidgah, Congress has fielded Imtiyaz Ahmad who happened to be Personal Assistant of senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil. Besides son of former dreaded Ikhwani, Kuka Parray namely Imtiyaz parray has also been fielded from North Kashmir along with Usman Majeed.
Sources said that some faces who are known for contesting elections every time though unsuccessfully. They include Gulzar Ahmad wani of Shangus assembly constituency who lost 1996, 2002 and 2008, Mohammad Anwar Bhat from Pampore constituency lost 1996, 2002 and 2008, Abdul Gani Vakil from North Kashmir has never won for Congress, Khemlata Wakhloo from Sonwar Srinagar lost 1996, 2002 and 2008 assembly elections and Muhmmad Amin Bhat of Devsar also lost 2002 and 2008 assembly elections, besides according to sources congress has also fielded some workers with shabby past from Habakadal and other parts of Anantnag District.
Meanwhile when Early Times contacted state congress vice President, Ghulam Nabi Monga in this regard said that 'anybody and everybody has a right to contest elections, so why cannot ours with whatever background can contest and added that opposition leaders are on toes to these days to somehow defame our candidates and gain points over them among common masses.
