Rahul not to indulge in JK politics | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 8: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will not be the star campaigner for the party. Rahul Gandhi has reportedly decided to keep himself away from the politics of the State. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is also not very much interested in campaigning. According to the party sources, the Congress top leadership is not forthcoming in the campaigning. Congress sources said that apprehending a loss in the elections, they fear that their image could take a further beating if they invest more here in the State. The state leadership is also not very much interested in showcasing them but it banking on the individuals and mostly on Azad, who still carries an image and pan-state acceptance. Sources said Rahul had a long relation with the Omar Abdullah but with the sudden U-turn of the Omar on the Congress, who is reportedly getting close to the BJP, congress vice-president feels that it would put him more uncomfortable position if he lands in the State and speaks against the NC. Congress leadership also believes that since the top leadership is being blamed for the poor performance of the party, which incidentally its worst ever, showcasing them as the face of the party could do more damage than the good. Source said that even by the internal assessment of the party it would be difficult to reach the double-figure mark and if these two leaders are seen as the main campaigner and with such results coming in the reality, it would give more ammunition to the BJP to further beat the Congress. This is some thing the party wants to avoid at this juncture . Congress leadership has decided that it will be Azad who will strategise the party and its campaign. In the Kashmir division the role has been entrusted to the tourism minister, who is not only close to the Gandhi family, but has not only ground in the Valley but can turn around the things there in favour of the party. Mir is doing this on his personal image like that of the Azad and probably doesn't need the support of some one else in the campaigning. |
