| Sham, Madan highlight contribution of Congress for dev of country | | | Early Times Report
Akhnoor, Nov 8: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control and senior Congress leader, Sham Lal Sharma today emphasized the need for a secular and strong Government in the State.
He asked the people to support the Congress party wholeheartedly to bring it into power for prosperous and vibrant Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a strong crowd of Congress workers at Akhnoor, the Minister said that Congress has always worked for promoting the unity, integrity and communal harmony to keep all sections of the society united, which was mandatory for ensuring all round development in the country as well in Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress party has rich history and vast experience of serving the people of the country for maximum period after the independence and people have great faith on the party's secular ideology which is its real strength, said Sham.
Underlining the importance of election, the Minister said that vote is a fundamental right of every citizen and every individual must exercise his/her right to franchise to elect the representatives of their choice. He impressed upon the workers to educate and encourage the masses to ensure massive participation in this sacred democratic process. He said the election provides an opportunity to the people of this largest democratic country to elect the representatives of their choice to form a stable Government, therefore, everyone must ensure his participation and elect the candidate of their likings, who can deliver goods as per their wishes, he maintained.
Highlighting the performance of Congress-led Government in the Centre during its two consecutive terms, the Minister said the party had taken several welfare measures and development initiatives for the people, especially for those living below poverty line and marginalized sections of the society.
The country witnessed new heights of progress, all round development and prosperity and earned self respect in all spheres at the global market. The visionary and dynamic leadership of Congress had taken some very courageous and bold policy decisions which will prove beneficial for the country in the long run. He asked the people to elect and exclusive Congress Government in the State for accelerating the development process in the State, he emphasized.
Cautioning the people against the nefarious design of the disruptive forces like BJP, PDP and NC, the Minister said that these political outfits have no specific agenda but just to misguide the people with hollow slogans. Former Congress MP from Jammu-Poonch, Madan Lal Sharma also addressed the gathering and said that Congress is the only party which can guard the honor of the people of Jammu as it has proved in rest of the country where it has ruled for over five decades. He said Congress party has a strong and secular foundation as its leaders have given numerous sacrifices for the unity and integrity of nation besides played pivotal role for achieving the independence. The party always promoted mutual brotherhood and worked hard for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society, thus the people must keep faith on the secular forces and defeat the nefarious design of the communal and divisive forces like Bhartya Janta Party, People's Democratic Parties and National Conference, which play the politics of disintegrating the society in the name of regions, religions, castes as has been proved in the past. |
