Locals wish authorities to wake up from slumber over 'shabby condition’ of roads | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 8: Irked over bad condition of the main road connecting main government offices including Post Graduation (PG) College, District Hospital, schools, many government offices including DIET and Sports Stadium, the residents living along Rajouri-Thanamndi and Rajouri-Ujjhan-Darhal road want authorities to wake up from the slumber and take steps to improve the condition of the road. Locals lamented that entire road stretch, connecting Post Graduation (PG) College, District Hospital, two higher secondary schools, many government offices including DIET and sports stadium on Rajouri-Thanamndi and Rajouri-Ujjhan-Darhal roads are not only dotted with potholes but also is eaten up by illegal encroachments . "The dilapidated road and its small area is resulting it into accident-prone," some locals rued. Another alleged the authorities are in deep slumber and it could be gauged from a approach that the condition of road stretch from Deputy Commissioner (DC) Office to PG college (upto Ujjhan) and from DC office to Darhali Bridge (to Thanamandi) are in worst condition and pose great inconvenience to the commuters on this road be it pedestrians or the drivers and local traders who face problems in dry and rain weather as well. "The road that leads to PG College and Ujjhan from District Hospital is in worst condition and gives a uncomfortable and unforgettable bumpy ride whenever one travels through this road," said Mohd Mushtaq a student. Meantime Initiaz Ahemed a resident of the area said that the roads which leads to Ujjhan was constructed under Prime Minister Gram Sarak Yojna (PMGSY) about two years ago but the unholy nexus within the officials the contractor who used sub standard construction material turned the road into a depleted condition. He added that locals held many protests against the contractor as well against the officials of PMGSY department but each time contractor comes and fill the potholes with soil and small pebbles but don't make a permanent black topping. "Dust and filthy water has made many people sick and the authorities are in deep slumber' said Naresh Kumar. Here it needs to mention that students and inhabitants of the area also held a mass protest on this Friday and warned the authorities to get the road repaired as soon as possible otherwise they will be left no option but to come to streets |
