Aircel XI, GCA Haryana win opening T20 ties

JAMMU, Nov 8: Aircel XI and GCA Haryana won their respective matches on the inaugural day of the IIIrd Eid-Diwali Milan Twenty20 Cup at Gulshan Ground, here today.
In the first match, Aircel defeated Sai Cricket Club by eight runs. Batting first, Aircel set a target of 164 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Irshad made highest 50 runs while Nitin and Sunil Sambyal contributed 27 and 21 runs respectively. From Sai Club, Sanjay and Rahul took two wickets each while Pintu and Nitu shared apiece each.
In reply, Sai Club exhausted their quota of overs for 157 runs losing six wickets thereby lost the match by eight runs. The brilliant innings played by Suman Koul could not help the side in view of lack of support from other end. Suman made 60-ball 86 runs while Varinder and Vinay added 15 and 12 runs respectively.
Nitin and Vikant took two wickets each while Irshad bagged one. Later, Irshad declared man of the match for his allround performance.
The second match of the day won by GCA Haryana, who scripted a comfortable six wickets win against Atman Sports XI.
Batting first, Atman Sports XI set a target of 123 runs losing seven wickets. Manpreet (49 off 35 balls), Abhay (15) and Rajesh (14) were the main scorers. Rahul took two wickets while Ashok, Anil, Surinder and Sumit shared apiece each from GCA Haryana.
Later, GCA Haryana achieved the target of 123 runs in 16.5 overs with six wickets in hand. Vinod (37), Anil (26) and Ashish (20) were the main contributors to the total. Romil, Manpreet and Sunny shared the wickets. Vinod of Haryana was named man of the match.
Earlier, the competition was declared open by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Shakeel Beig, who was chief guest. Also present were Sanjay Mahajan of Atman College, Rajnish Pran, Parshotam Sharma and Rajesh Gill.The opening day matches officiated by the technical penal including Sadiq Hussain, Sandeep Manchanda, Suhail Yusuf , Farooq Ahmad and Yogesh.
FIXTURE: KC Sports Club shall take on United Blues at 8 am; GCA Haryana to face Country Cricket Academy at 11.00 am; Akhnoor Club to meet Tanishta Cricket XI at 1 pm.
