JAMMU, Nov 28: Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER, organized a two-day workshop on 'Educating Youth on Sustainable Environment' on 25th and 26th Nov'14. According to press release, the objective of the workshop was to create and increase environmental awareness among youth and to sensitize them about sustainable environment. Students from Model Academy, Tiny Tots, Jodhamal Public School, K.C. International School and Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 participated in the workshop. The students were accompanied by volunteer teachers from their respective schools. Dr. Chitra Misra, Principal Model Academy, welcomed Dr. C.M Seth, Chairman, Centre for Environment Education and Training, University of Jammu who was the key Resource Person for the workshop. Dr. Seth, in his interaction with the students asserted that education for sustainable development can empower the youth to think creatively, make informed decisions and act responsibly towards a desirable future for their own lives and their societies. The students were engaged in various activities during the workshop namely poster making competition on the theme 'Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought', Cleanliness drive, tree plantation and creating a youth charter on a green and healthy planet. Suneha Manhas from Tiny Tots School, Ridhima from KC International School and Nitik Mahajan from Model Academy School won first, second and third prizes respectively in the poster making competition. The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Adit Gupta Joint Director and Rupa Gupta Management Representative. Jasleen Mohial was the facilitator for the workshop. Manju Vali, Convener Cultural Committee, and Poonam Gupta, In- charge, Eco-Club also participated in the workshop. |
