CF alleges Omar for charging high fees from Jammu Golf Club members | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 18: Alleging that Omar Abdullah has misappropriated with Rs 40 croress, in a nexus with Department of Tourism, meant for development of Jammu Golf Club, the Citizens Forum has flayed the ‘sky rocketing’ high fee for the membership of the golf course. In a press statement, the forum alleged that department is forcing the members to pay exorbitant Rs 5 lakh as the fee to cover up the misappropriation else their memberships are being cancelled. Citizens’ Forum has also demanded a probe by a government agency in the bungling. In a joint statement, issued to the press, the Citizens’ Forum president RK Chadha and general secretaries Com Virinder Singh and Sanjeev Kerni said that there was no justification in charging Rs 5 lakh as membership fee for the new Jammu Golf Club for which the funds have come from the Centre and which does not have as good facilities as Srinagar’s Royal Spring Golf Course where the fees is Rs 50,000 only. The statement further quotes that, “In a High Court caveat by tourism department to Citizen’s Forum president R K Chadha, it is declared that the department has spent Rs 40 croresss till date on the construction of Jammu Golf Course Club (JGCC) and Rs 20 croresss more still to be spent. The Rs 40 croresss funds have been misappropriated and a huge amount of Rs 12 to Rs 15 croress has yet to be paid to the contractors. The building and the Golf Course constructed is not of the standard of that of Royal Spring Golf Course Srinagar. The statement further reads that during the interview of prospective members the Commissioner/Secretary Tour-ism promised R K Chadha that for changes in the fee structure, it should be given in writing to be placed before the Chairman, Omar Abdullah (Chief Minister) and other board members of the club, “but the club is still cancelling the permanent memberships appointed to Jammu people on the pretext that members are not coming forward to pay Rs 5 lakh, he further added. |
