4 FIRs lodged against political activists, Cong Minister booked for attempt to murder

Jammu, Dec 20: Fifth and final phase of assembly elections 2014 ended on a stormy note with Police registering four First Information Reports (FIRs) against PDP and BJP activists and booking a Congress minister for indulging in violence and violating Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Sources told Early Times, District Election authorities, Kathua registered two separate FIRs against a Minister and Independent candidate for violating MCC and indulging in violence. FIR No 187/14 u/s 147, 148, 149, 353, 323, 336 and 307 RPC was registered at Billawar Police Station against Minister of State Manohar Lal Sharma for leading a mob which allegedly attacked the BJP candidate Nirmal Singh and indulged in other unlawful activities. The mob also manhandled DySP Hq Kathua and SHO Billawar. Following the incident district election officer ordered immediate action.
Pertinently Early Times in its Saturday's edition had reported that BJP candidate from Billawar constituency Nirmal Singh and Congress candidate Dr Manohar Lal Sharma exchanged heated words after the vehicle of the BJP was ransacked by some miscreants at Thara Kalwal in Billawar constituency last night.
Miscreants stopped the vehicle of BJP and attacked it with hockey and sticks. Police officials rushed to the spot but the police team was intercepted by another vehicle carrying Dr Manohar Lal Sharma and his PSOs. In the meanwhile, Dr Nirmal Singh also reached the spot and both leaders entered into an heated argument following which minister allegedly attacked the BJP candidate Nirmal Singh . Police took both candidates and their supporters to the police post .Later police booked Dr Manohar Lal for various offences, including manhandling DySP Hq Kathua and SHO Billawar, and attempt to murder.
Another FIR under No. 87/114 was lodged at Police Station Basohli against independent candidate Rajinder Singh and unknown persons u/s 341, 147 and 427 RPC.
District Election Officer Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary had issued strict directions to police to take immediate action against all persons indulging in poll violence.
The third FIR under No 197/2014 u/s 341,323,147, 148,427 RPC was registered in Nowshera against PDP workers Ved Prakesh, Sher Singh and 19 others for assaulting the BJP candidate from Nowshera Ravinder Raina. Raina was shifted to Intensive Care Unit of GMC Jammu today.
The fourth FIR No 240/14 was registered against BJP leaders Ravinder Singh and Sunny u/s 352,332,336, 147 RPC by Akhnoor police for assault on Congress workers.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate from Akhnoor Rajiv Kumar Sharma, PDP candidate Dev Raj Bhagat and NC candidate Dr Gafoor held protest against administration and Congress candidate Sham Lal Sharma for alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct.
Apart from criminal activities, around 561 people of village Chapaki Kallan, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Rajbagh,Hiranagar did not cast vote to express their resentment against authorities as officials failed to establish a polling station in their village.
