Doda, Dec 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bhaderwah, a unit of Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu, initiated rejuvenation of backyard poultry farming in the rural areas of District Doda for ensuring the economic sustainability of the farming community.A series of programmes including trainings and front line demonstrations on rearing of Vanraja breed of poultry were conducted by the KVK in Droundi, Thalsara and Kulsari villages of the district under the overall guidance of Dr K.S. Risam, Director Extension, SKUAST-J. These programmes were conducted by team of scientists from KVK headed by Dr RS Bandral, comprising of Dr B Brahma, Dr Narinder Paul, Dr AS Charak, and Dr Amitesh Sharma. During the programmes, Dr B. Brahma highlighted the importance of backyard poultry in rural livelihood of hilly areas and aware the farmers about feeding and housing management practices for getting higher returns from backyard poultry.Farmers keenly participated in the programmes and discussed about the feeding, housing and disease management of the poultry birds for better body weight gain and feed conversion efficiency. |
