JAMMU, Feb 19: Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association felicitated the medal winning team and individual fencer in the just concluded National Games at Kerela in a function held here today. Though the Association did not commit anything in kind, still the fencers were elated over the honour back home. While the four-member men's Sabre team returned with two bronze medals, Vishal Thappar secured third place in individual event. The men's team comprised experienced Rashid Ahmed, Ujjwal Gupta, Vishal and Javed. However, the five-member women's team, that took part in Foil event, could not do well thereby finished fifth. Among those who patted the fencers were president of the Association, MJ Sharma, general secretary, Vijay Sharma, Falail Singh and UC Dingra as also treasurer, M M Sharma. "With two bronze medals in the just concluded competitions, the overall medals tally of J&K in the National Games has gone up to 18, including four silver," informed state fencing coach, Shotu Lal Sharma. |
