Jammu, Feb 19: NHPC Limited, Regional Office, Jammu distributed scholarship worth Rs. 21.62 lacs today to 244 students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Bazar Qasaban, Jammu According to press release, the function presided by Simrandeep Singh, Director School Education. RK Kedia, Chief (HR), from NHPC Limited and Principals and Headmasters of concerned schools were present on the occasion. Distribution of these Scholarships are aimed at encouraging parents to send their SC/ST and Girl students to school, lighten their financial burden on school education and sustain their efforts to support their children to complete school education. The benefit will form the foundation for their educational attainment and provide a level playing field in the competitive employment arena. Empowerment through education, which is one of the objectives of this initiative, has the potential to lead to upliftment of the socio economic conditions of the girl community. Welcoming the Chief Guest, Teachers, Students and others present, RK Kedia, Chief (HR) stated that NHPC Limited has been taking up many initiatives in the field of Education, Health, Peripheral Development and others since 2006 under Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme (CSR) across the country including the State of J&K where NHPC is engaged in construction of Hydro Projects and operation of Powers Stations. Speaking on the occasion, Simrandeep Singh, Director School Education, Jammu said that the initiative taken by NHPC Limited shall go a long way in obtaining education by the students at School level, which is need of the hour. He further said that NHPC Limited, besides its core business of Construction of Hydroelectric Projects, is concerned about its responsibility towards economic development of the Society in and around its locations which is quite appreciable. The chief guest thanked NHPC Limited for providing scholarship to the deserving and needy students and hoped that such initiatives shall be taken in future also for the benefit of student community. Shafkat Chib, Principal, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Bazar Qasaban presented vote of thanks. The function concluded with distribution of sweets among the students. |
