Dark clouds turn day time into dusk, while hailstorm slides mercury | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 19: Dark clouds hovered over the city skyline and reduced the visibility to near zero forcing the motorists to switch on the headlights during afternoon. Meantime a late evening hails storm further slid the mercury down in the winter capital. The unique weather phenomenon was followed by thunderstorm and moderate rainfall which furrher reduced the temperature.The upper reaches of Jammu region witnessed fresh snowfall following these western disturbances. The 300 km long national highway connecting Kashmir valley was also blocked due to snowfall while several flights were cancelled leaving the stranded passengers in lurch. As weathermen had predicted the Jammu region witnessed rains in plain areas across the belt while hilly areas and upper reaches witnessed snowfall and thunderstorm. The power and networking facilities faced disruptions due to bad weather conditions while traffic chaos led to long jams during the afternoon as the entire city was gripped by hovering dark clouds. The school going children and their parents were caught in the traffic jams and reached homes very late in the day. Many local residents termed it a scary development as they had never seen city skyline drapped in thick blanket of clouds during day time. Weathermen have also predicted similar conditions to persist for two more days. A hail storm which lashed the winter capital here late evening give some further respite to the Jammuites from sudden swelling of the mercury for the last few days. The young drivers driving their vehicles on city roads were seen enjoying the hailstorm while some were seen collecting the hail stones. |
