Sangampreet, Kunwar Partap win gold in open events

JAMMU, Feb 21: Simi Sharma and S Basumantaray won women's and men's gold respectively in the senior categories of three-day Ninth Jammu District and Ist Invitational Archery Championship, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Archery Association at Mini Stadium, Parade, here today.
In the meantime, the men's individual gold in compound event went to Sangampreet Singh. Second place in this event went to Jaskaran while Balbir Singh remained third.
Similarly, in another individual event of re-curve, the first place bagged by Kunwar Partap Singh while Devendar Sagar secured second place. Harjot Singh had to contain with a bronze medal.
Earlier, in men's team event, Team-B (Mahavir and Vasu) won the gold beating Team-A (Shivam and Chandan) by a margin of six points with final score being 97-91.
The first place in women's team event bagged by Team-A (Rita, Milaz and Sami) outplaying Team-B (Deepansha, Usha, Shakti and Salma) by 22 (133-111) points. In the finals and valedictory function, Member Parliament (MP), Jugal Kishore Sharma was chief guest, who gave away winners and runner's up trophies as other individual prizes and medals. He was all praise for the Association for involving young boys and girls in the sports activities.
The chief guest hit the target with bow and arrow along with president of the Association and Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ajit Kumar Sahu and general secretary, Sunil Sharma.
Director School Education, Simranjeet Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jammu, Uttam Chand and Chief Sports Officer of State Sports Council, Sachin Mahajan of HDFC and Rajesh Anand, AGM SBI were guests of honour. Prominent among others present were officers of the State Sports Council, Ravi Singh, Ashok Singh, Satish Gupta and S P Singh as also general secretary of J&K Judo Association, Vikas Gupta.
Earlier, general secretary of J&K Olympic Association (JKOA), Ashutosh Sharma welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering.
Later, extending his gratitude to everyone associated with the successful conduct of the championship. Complementing the concerned staff of the State Sports Council for making the ground worth play in a very short time, the Deputy Commissioner made special mention about the manager Mini Stadium, Parade, Satish Gupta for his tireless efforts. "Had the Sports Council staff not prepared the ground, we were all set to shift the valedictory function for tomorrow," said the DC, Jammu.

BOYS: MINI: 20 mts: Pranjal, Ist; Sardul, 2nd and Dhromdev, 3rd. SUB-JUNIOR: 30 mts: Devansh, Ist; Rigdev, 2nd and Akilesh, 3rd. Junior: 40 kg: Aarsh, Ist; Lovely, 2nd and Devansh, 3rd. S Basumataray, Ist; Mahaveer Patil, 2nd and Shivam, 3rd.
GIRLS: MINI: Arya, Ist; Shreya, 2nd and Muksan, 3rd. SUB-JUNIOR: 30 mts: Taniya, Ist; Asma, 2nd and Srishti, 3rd. Junior: Jaishree, Ist; Deepa, 2nd and Shenzo, 3rd. Senior: Simi Sharma, Ist; Rita Katel, 2nd and Mehanaz, 3rd.
