Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 21: Four important commissions, Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), JK Backward Commission and State Accountability Commission (SAC) have been defunct as the ousted NC-Cong regime slept over the issue of appointing heads of these important bodies.
Omar led regime did nothing to take tangible measures to rejuvenate four defunct commissions due to which most of the pending cases are still lying unattended and victims are still waiting for the justice.
"The erstwhile NC-Cong regime framed search committees to look for the eligible persons who could be appointed as chairmen of these commissions but both the coalition partners wanted their own men to head these commissions which led to the stalemate and all these commissions remained defunct," sources added.
JKPSC: Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission is defunct after the retirement of the last man in office as chairperson Kulbhushan Jandial on November 16, last year. Not only finding a suitable person to hold office as chairperson , State government has found it extremely difficult to appoint members to this commission during the past 5 years.
SAC:, State Accountability Commission is also lying defunct owing to the lethargy of the Government which in turn has invited widespread criticism from different corners. The same is defunct since August, 20 last year due to the failure of the Government to initiate timely exercise for the appointment of its new Chairperson and Members.
JK Backward Commission: Even the Jammu and Kashmir Backward Commission has gone backward like its name after being defunct for a long time.
JKSHRC: Jammu and Kashmir State Human Rights Commission is also defunct after the retirement of Rafiq Fida Hussain in July last year.
"Over 850 cases, including 300 in Jammu and the rest in Kashmir stand registered before the Jammu as well as Kashmir bench of State Human Rights Commission till date", said the sources.
