Rajouri, Feb 24: Flood and heavy rains affected locals of Manjakot tehsil of Rajouri district today held a protest at Jammu-Poonch highway and blocked the road alleging authorities have failed to provide them the required relief and free ration till today.
Led by Farooq Khan, a BJP leader the protesters alleged that for the last more than five months genuine victims have been holding protests for the relief/ free ration but yet are left unheard by the concerned authorities and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for about two hours
Speaking on the occasion, "They (original flood victims) have been ignored by the revenue officials deliberately while preparing the lists of the beneficiaries and blue eyed, who had suffered no loss either due to landslides or in the floods, have been added in the lists."
"Many among them still spending harsh nights in the open in the tents as they have no money to construct even a 'kacha house' for them, lamented Mohd Hussain a flood victim.
Meanwhile Anil Mangotra, Tehsildar , Manjakot rushed to spot and gave a patient hearing to the representatives of the protesters assured them to redress their allegations after re-verification of facts.
On the assurance of tehsildar people lifted the protest and warned that if the actual victims were not given their due share of relief they will again be forced to hold another demonstration.
