| Workshop on 'Patent Designs, Trademarks and Intellectual Property Rights' held | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 24 : Department of Zoology, University of Jammu in collaboration with J&K State Council for Science & Technology today organized a one-day Workshop on "Patent Designs, Trademarks and Intellectual Property Rights".
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma said that these are exclusive rights over the intellectual property granted to creator or holders which protect their rights from misappropriation by third parties without their authorization.
Prof Sharma said that the scholars and students should be involved in research and other practical activities so as to give them the practical knowledge as the knowledge gained through practicals is retained throughout the life. Vice Chancellor also complimented the Department of Zoology and J&K State Council for Science & Technology for organizing seminar on such a relevant topic which will go long way for researchers
Special invitees, Secretary to Government, S&T and IT Department Parvez Ahmed Malik, and Additional Director, JK Science & Technology Shafat Sultan, spoke about the various activities being carried out by the Department of Science and Technology.
They also informed that a Patent Information Center has been sanctioned which will be in place by May 2015.
In his address Malik said that the J&K council of Science & Technology is promoting all branches of science and is organizing such kind of workshops and today's workshop is in the series aimed at generating awareness among the researchers to register their original research.
Earlier in his presidential address, Prof K K Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences threw light on the Intellectual Rights and Copyright, patents, trade and service marks etc and also briefed about objective of the workshop.
In the first technical session Prof Ashwani Wangnoo, HoD Environment Science and Limnology, Barlatullah University Bopal delivered a key note address on the topic "Patent & Copy Rights".
Idrees-ul-Haq, Member JK Innovator's Forum, Jammu spoke on the topic "A Beginning to the Innovations" Er Manik Gupta, Registered Patent Agent, Jammu spoke on the topic "Role of Patents in 21st Century".
Prof Roopma Gandotra, Head, Department of Zoology and Shruti Khanna, Programme Co-ordinator of Sc. & Technology conducted proceedings of programme. |
