JAMMU, Feb 24: The inter-house sports meet in the disciplines of lawn tennis and badminton, organised by Directorate of Sports, got underway at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra today.
The competition was declared open by Registrar of the University, Ajay Khajuria. The chief guest was accompanied by Director Sports, Ashok Kumar and president Board of Sports, Dr Ajay Sharma as also Administrator, Vinod Sharma and Chief Security Officer, RS Charak.
Interacting with the participants, the Registrar expressed his satisfaction over the growing sports culture on the campus with more and more students taking part in the competition organised on the campus.
He appreciated the Sports Department for introducing the game of lawn tennis on the campus thus providing the students a platform to perform and excel.

Lawn Tennis: Singles: Ashish of Jal House bt Prateek of Prithvi House in straight sets of 4-0, 4-0. Women: Dipti of Prithvi House bt Sidra of Jal House 4-0, 4-3.
Badminton: Amandeep of Akash House lost to Swapan of Agni House 15-21, 07-21. Women: Yamini of Akash House bt Sweda of Agni House in straight sets 21-14, 21-17. Mixed doubles: Yamini and Amandeep bt the pair of Anup and Uneet 21-18, 21-13.
Meanwhile, the Sports Department of the SMVDU has projected its men's boxing team for the upcoming All India Inter-University Tournament to be held at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar. The team comprises Gunjan, Ankit Pandey and Kapil while Sucha Singh accompanied as coach. |
