Open Carrom Championship concludes Adnan, Aaliya bag top prizes

Srinagar, Feb 24: Adnan Afzal and Aaaliya sultan bagged top prizes in the two-day Open Carrom championship that concluded at Islamia College, Hawal here on Tuesday.
The event was organized by District Sports Development Association, Srinagar under the auspices of J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA) attracted around 70 players from all over valley for participation.
Various U-14 boys and Open male, female categories were held in the event. Adnan Afzal bagged the top prize in the senior male category while Danish Bashir and Fazil Fayaz bagged second and third places respectively. Waseem Bashir bagged fourth place.
In the female category, Aaliya Sultan bagged first place while Insha Afzal bagged second and Asma Baba bagged third place.
In the Under-14 boys category, Rouf Ahmad Dar bagged first position while Aqib Manzoor bagged second place and Ilhan Bin Bilal bagged third position. Earlier Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Srinagar, East, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah along with Principal Islamia College Hawal, Professor Muhammad Aslam Baba inaugurated the two-day open carrom championship at Islamia College Indoor hall, on Monday.
Hailing the organizers for coming up with such an event in the heart of Old City, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah said, "It is great to see organization like JKSDA coming forward with the events like this. I myself belong to Old City have spent precious years of my life in the area. There is misconception among the people that Old City youth are intelligent and have no qualities. They mostly are wrong as Old City has given state many well known faces in every arena including sports".
Principal Islamia College, Professor M. Aslam Baba said that the doors of college are always open for the events like this and Islamia College has earned name for itself in the sports arena.
"Apart from academics, Islamia College has earned its own name in sports arena. The college campus keep buzzing with activities throughout the year with sports activities. We always ready to help any organizations who want to organize activities in the College," he said.
JKSDA Sr. Vice-President, Rauf Ahmad Tramboo while giving details about the event said that only aim about coming up with event like Carrom is to give youth and talented players platform to showcase their talent.
The event was held in collaboration with Physical Education department, Islamia College. Among others present on the occasion were, JKSDA Vice-President Alta fur Rehman, JKSDA Gen Secretary Waseem Farooq and members Mir Nazir, Adil Shah and Reyaz Wani.
