BARAMULLA, Mar 18: Thirteen houses and five cowsheds have collapsed due to landslides during the past two days in Baramulla district as twenty-two families migrated to safer places. Local residents of Nardpati Laridora Mohammad Abbas Khan told Early Times that land developed cracks in the early morning of Tuesday at 5 am, seven houses and five cow sheds collapsed and almost fifty cattle came under a huge patch of land."We have a joint family of 12 members living under a single roof. Fearing collapse of our house, we were forced to evacuate during the morning time and are staying with other people in Panchayat house, said Mohammad Abbas. He said that, we thought an earthquake had stuck the area resulting in the panic. Our house collapsed and then after we found that land was cracked almost 20 feet below the surface. The land is developing cracks and it appears that major soil erosion may wreak havoc to life and property, due to collapse of houses we are rendered homeless, Rafiq informed.Local residents whose houses collapsed were identified as Sumandar Khan S/O Mirbaz Khan, Mohammad Ayoub Khan S/O Sumandar Khan, Abdul Rashid Khan S/O Sumandar Khan, Mohammad Sadiq Khan S/O Shahbaz Khan, Bashir Ahmad Khan S/O Shahbaz Khan, Shabir Ahmad Khan S/O Shahbaz Khan, Mohammad Ashraf Khan S/O Shahnawaz Khan, Pervaiz Ahmad Khan S/O Shahnawaz Khan, Rafiq Ahmad Khan S/O Shahnawaz Khan, Mohammad Ayoub Khan S/O Shahnawaz Khan, Khalid Ahmad Khan S/O Shahnawaz Khan, Fareed Ahmad Khan S/O Saaid Mohammad Khan, Hajji Dilawar Khan S/O Hussain Khan and Ali Jan Khan S/O Hussain Khan of Jamia Mohalla in Nadpati Ladoora area in Baramulla district. Meanwhile in Fresthar village of Khowjabagh area, a huge land sliding occurred in which five houses were partially damaged as a result of heavy rains and snowfall in the area over the last few days. Local resident of Fresthar Riyaz Ahmad told early times over the phone that a huge crater has developed in the area resulted in the destruction of about five to six houses. Five residential houses of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, Abdul Gani Sheikh, Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Pervaiz Ahmad Lone, Tanveer Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad Lone were partially damaged due to land sliding. As per the reports that there is no loss of life, but property worth Rs 80 to Rs 90 lakhs were buried to the ground till last reports came in. Following a representation by locals about land sliding in the village, a team from district administration accompanied by Tehsildar Baramulla Nazir Ahmad Shah, J&K police, Army visited the village and took stock of the situation. |
