Weather improves, sun play hide & seek in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 18: Weather has witnessed more improvement during the past 24 hours in the Kashmir valley, where sun was today playing hide and seek while the minimum temperature dropped further in Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region. A Met department spokesperson said there was possibility of rain or snow today in the region, where the weather will remain mainly dry during the next four days. After chilly conditions during the past few days, it was dry weather in the plains though upper reaches experienced fresh snowfall during the past 24 hours in the Kashmir valley, where the minimum temperature has improved though sun was playing hide and seek since this morning. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 100 km from here in north Kashmir, remained coldest in the valley after fresh snowfall during the past 48 hours. It was cloudy since early this morning at the resort, where the ski slopes are under several feet of white powder, being considered best in the world. The Spokesperson said against yesterday's minus 2.5 degree, Celsius the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 3.2 degree due to clear sky though it was still one notch above normal. However, the night temperature was still sub zero at famed health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir. However, minus 1 degree was being considered normal during this time of the season at the health resort. He said at Qazigund, the minimum temperature was 1.4 degree, two notches below normal, while at Kokernag it was 0.7 degree against normal of 3 degree. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 3.9 degree minimum temperature, two notches above normal, he said. It was a respite from the chill for the people in the summer capital, Srinagar as the weather remained dry during the past 24 hours. The minimum temperature also witnessed considerable improvement as against 0.4 degree, recorded yesterday, it was 4.1 degree, slightly above normal in the city, where a number of areas remained waterlogged. However, people at Leh and Kargil were not so lucky as the mercury remained below freezing point. At Kargil, the minimum temperature witnessed further drop and settled at minus 7.2 degree against yesterday's minus 6.4 degree while at Leh. it was minus 2.3 degree against yesterday's minus 0.5 degree. |
