Reasi, Mar 22 : The residents of the adjoining villages falling on both the sides of Reasi-Pouni highway have lamented over the illegal construction of shops, kiosks and houses that have encroached the state forest land. The villagers rue that despite listing their grievances to the concerned authorities over the encroachment and illegal constructions on the highway, no action was taken that has resulted in damaging the ecology of the region besides consuming the state forest land under the very nose of the administration. "Such illegal encroachments have been a regular phenomenon since past many years and the encroachers are infringing on the forest and while the government is nonchalant. The encroachment, besides, tightening the road have turned the highway into small bottlenecks at various places which can lead t accidents and frequent traffic jams," said Rajesh Kumar a, a resident of Pouni. He said that since the encroachments have been taking place for a long time, no government authority ever tried to make a check n it. Some of the villagers even lamented that they had approached the Reasi tehsildar's office many times in this regard, but to o avail. "We had gone to the tehsildar with the deputation to take the cognizance of the offence being committed unabated on the highway that is damaging the eco-balance besides consuming the state forest land with impunity, but he failed to take any initiative," said Suresh, Pawan and Kishore of village Bhatiyal falling in Pouni. District commissioner Reasi, Sushma Chauhan when contacted in this regard assured that effective steps would be taken soon and all encroachers would be removed from the site. " I have received some complaints earlier als and removed the encroachers from the venue and if I am approached with the complaint in this regard, I would definitely take the initiative to remove all encroachers from the area," DC Sushma Chauhan.
