BDO office plagued by corruption alleges AE

MENDHAR, Mar 22 : Assistant Engineer (technical) in the office of block development officer (BDO), Mendhar, who is faced with an inquiry for his alleged attempt to misappropriate government material two days back, today hit back at his critics and alleged that the office suffered from graft since long.AE Sikandar Hussain was alleged to have tempered with an official document by fraudulently changing the figure of 3 crates to 33 crates. He headed technical section in the office but also looked after other works in the absence of BDO Rafiq Choudhary. He stands attached now.On the direction of deputy commissioner, Poonch, ACD (Poonch) Shoukat Hussain Malik is probing into the alleged incident. He has been asked to submit inquiry report within one week.
Sikandar today told the local scribes here that he was ready to face any inquiry because he was not at fault.
"The BDO office is plagued with corruption and an attempt has been made to trap me because I was opposed to the corrupt practices in the department and had been making relentless efforts to clean the system ever since my posting here," he alleged.He alleged that 15 per cent commission was being charged in advance by panchayat secretaries/VLWs of Mendhar block for releasing MGNREGA payments to the people. He did not spare even the Mendhar BDO and launched a scathing attack on him. "The BDO is part of this whole corrupt exercise," he alleged.
The AE said storekeeper Subash Sharma was under transfer for the past six months but the BDO had retained him for his alleged "ulterior" motives.
Early Times has recorded version of his outburst against the BDO and his subordinates. "When I opposed their corrupt practices, a conspiracy was hatched to trap me," he alleged, demanding a fair probe into the whole episode.
Sikandar alleged that for the release of payments under IAY (Indira Awas Yojna), more than 40 pc commission was being charged by the BDO office.
