SRINAGAR, Mar 22: Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) Teachers Forum today flayed the government's verbal orders to bar the ReT teachers from the examination duty. The Forum has threatened of agitation in case the order is not withdrawn.
Addressing a press conference here, Chairman ReT Teachers Forum, Farooq Ahmad Tantray flayed the decision of Education Minister, Naeem Akhter for issuing verbal orders to the Chief Education Officers of the state to bar the teachers under the ReT scheme from rendering the examination duties.
"As per the order that has also has been conveyed to the Board of School Education (BOSE) officials, Joint Directors of the Education Department have been asked not to entertain the teachers under ReT scheme for the examination duties. This is the highest degree of discrimination," said Tantray.
Tantray said that the order conveyed by the Education Minister to the officials of the department clearly mentions to relieve the teachers under the ReT scheme from the examination duties, which according to him cannot be tolerated at any cost.
"I want to make it clear to the Education Minister that the order number 396 about the basic scheme of the ReT, in which it is clearly mentioned that after rendering five years continuous service, a ReT teacher becomes a general line teacher," said Chairman ReT Teachers Forum. Tantray said that a ReT after becoming a general line teacher, he or she is automatically covered under the service rules which are applicable to the general line teachers. He said as such there is no justification of issuing such order barring ReT teachers from discharging examination duties. "When the ReT teachers are dragged to discharge the election duties or any other emergency duty, then why they should not be allowed to discharge the examination duties. The department is playing a dangerous game by resorting to the divisive policies in the teachers and same could prove fatal," said Chairman ReT Teachers Forum.
Tantray said that if the Education Minister remains adamant on his order then 60,000 ReT teachers will be left with no choice but to boycott the classes. He threatened that an agitation would be carried out with the teachers coming on roads in support of their demands. "The teachers under ReT and RAMSA schemes are without salaries for the last eight months making their lives hellish. These teachers have taken loan from the banks and now they are being pressurized by the managers of these banks to repay the loans. The Education Minister should look into this so that the problems are addressed," said Chairman ReT Teachers Forum.
