Zang Trai celebrated with fervour, gaiety

JAMMU, Mar 22: Zang Trai the festival of women was celebrated with gaiety and fervour today. The day falls on third of Navratra everyyear on which special programmes are held for women. In connection with celebration of Zang Trai functions were held at Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Ambphalla, Bhagwaan Gopinathji Trust and Sharika Peeth Sanstha. The programme at KP Sabha was chaired by its president K K Khosa while Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director Quality Assurance Jammu University was the chief guest. The proceedings were conducted by Dr Anupama Koul. On the occasion a melodious bhajan recital was presented by Papu Raj and team which enthralled the participants. The speakers expressed grave concern over the social evils prevalent in the society at present and Sabha was urged to launch a crusade for their eradication by way of organizing seminars and group discussions with the community members.
In her address Dr Meenakshi Kilam gave a detailed spiritual and social genesis of Zang Trai. She said Zang Trai is the day of Chandarganta a married goddess. The day was celebrated as a women day by Kashmiri Pandits and perhaps the unique function in the world. She suggested that the women scholars, academicians, writers, scientists be honoured on this day. Speaking on the occasion, G J Kampasi stressed upon change in the socio culture ethos of the community to make the youth conservant with age old traditions and other customs. K K Khosa, in a brief address exhorted women of the community to participate in community affairs in a big way. He said Sabha is ready to help any one in distress. Others who presented their views included Ashok Braroo, senior vice president, Shyama Handoo,Dr Anupuran Koul,Ashvani Koul, Subash Dhar and Ashok Khar.
The vote of thanks was presented by S L Bagati. Zang Trai was also celebrated at Bhagawaan Gopianthji Ashram Udaiwala Bohri today with fervour and gaiety. Mrs Kailash Mehra Sadhu was the chief guest on the occasion and introductory address was made by Dr Sushil Wattal. The function started with lighting of traditional Jyoti followed by Guru Vandana.
The devotees on the occasion paid obeisance to Bhagawaan Ji. Renowned artists including Naina Saproo, Ravi Bhan, Darmesh Nargotra, Shanti Lal Sid, Aarti Razdhan and Kiran Koul presented melodious devotional songs on the occasion. Pyare Hatash spoke at length on the significance and importance of Zangtrai festival.
As a ritual S K Turki and Shadi Lal Ganjoo distributed a small packet of salt and Rs five each among the ladies as a token of love and Prasad from Bhagawaanji. Zangtrai was also celebrated at Sharika Peeth Sanstha, Subahs Nagar today. A large number of women from KP community attended the function and they were offered a small packet of salt and a photgraph of Mata Sharika.
