Govt intends to enhance compensation
Cross border firing victims

Jammu, Mar 29: The government of Jammu and Kashmir today said that it intends to enhance compensation to cross border firing victims from 1 lac to 5 lacs in case of death.
In reply to A.Q. No: 967 of MLA Sham Lal Choudhary question whether the compensation paid in respect of the persons injured/expired in Cross-Border Firing is quite insufficient and needs to be enhanced; if so, the details thereof; if not, the reasons there for?, the Minister in charge Home through director Finance Home Department stated that a proposal for revising the compensation in regard of persons injured/expired in Cross-Border firing has been submitted to Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs for their concurrence as the expenditure on account of ex-gratia compensation is funded under Security Related Expenditure (SRE). The reply said that matter is under consideration in the Government of India.
As per government, for death of civilians due to landmine blasts/Cross Border firing along LOC/IB is proposed to be enhanced from Rs. 1 lac to 5 lac, for the injury causing permanent disables the government proposes the enhancement of compensation from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 2 lacs, for Serious injury i.e.
Hospitalization for more than 24 hrs the government proposes the enhancement of compensation from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 2 lacs, for injury with hospitalization less than 24 hr the government proposes the enhancement of compensation from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 50,000 and for minor injury discharged after first aid the government proposes the enhancement of compensation from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10000.
