Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 27: Deployment of troops along the Line of Control has been strengthened to thwart cross-border infiltration attempts with the snow starting to melt, a top Army commander said here today.
"We are fully prepared to thwart any cross-border infiltration attempts along the LoC. As the snow has started melting, troops have been put on alert," General Officer Commanding-In-Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen DS Hooda told reporters here.
"Deployment of troops along the LoC has been increased and the fence that suffered damage during floods is being repaired," he said.
The Army Commander was responding to questions on possible infiltration bids from across the border at a function here to felicitate Ram Nath Meena, Divisional Traffic Manager of Northern Railway (Jammu), for his selfless dedication and professional service rendered.
"Infiltration is bit difficult along the LoC. But the floods has damaged the patches of fencing along the International Border which gives advantage to militants in their infiltration bids," Lt Gen Hooda said.
"We have ensured strictness and second tier of security. Police is also there. BSF has further strengthened its strategy to combat infiltration," he said.
Asked whether there was any fear of summer unrest in Kashmir, he said, "We are also prepared to react to any situation. All preparations with regard to Amarnath yatra have been completed."
Lt Gen Hooda said there were reports that militant launching pads from across the border may engineer attacks similar to the terror attacks in Kathua and Samba districts.
He further said that over 250 militants were operating in the camps across the border in Jammu and added that militant activities may increase in Kashmir Valley.
