Early Times Report

Jammu, July 6: BJP legislators from erstwhile Doda have decided to adopt schools in the urban areas which are already in good health and develop them as model schools.
These MLAs have deliberately ignored the rural schools, which have been craving for infrastructure. Two days ago the MLAs announced in District Development Board meeting held at Doda, Kishtwar that the schools in the urban areas would be developed as model schools. Shakti Singh Parihar (MLA Doda) announced that he will adopt Girls Higher Secondary School Doda, while MLA Bhaderwah Deelap Singh Parihar said he would adopt Higher Secondary School Boys Bhaderwah and MLA Kishtwar Sunil Sharma will adopt Boys Higher Secondary School Kishtwar.
Chief Education Officer, Ajit Kumar Sharma admitted that HSS Girls Doda and HSS Boys Bhaderwah have sufficient staff and infrastructure while the higher secondary schools based in remote areas have been facing infrastructure shortage.
Mocking at the idea to adopt the schools in urban areas, Surriender Singh, a social activist, said that schools like HSS Topneel in Doda face acute dearth of teachers. Hundreds of students can be found packed in 2-3 rooms, he said, "but these legislators forget these needy schools."
"In HSS Topneel around 800 students were enrolled this year, but the faculty positions in Hindi, English, Education, EVS, Commerce and Computer Science are not available, and in GHSS Bharath where more than 300 students are on rolls, the school doesn't have Math, Chemistry and Physics lecturers," Singh said.
He said that in 2010, the government upgraded Bharath HSS, but till date the school is running from one building block which comprises four rooms including a store, one principal room and a staff room, and two classrooms.
"Due to non-availability of lecturers in such schools, the studies of students especially are affected, hence the results are always poor," said Singh.
"Students of rural schools don't enjoy facilities like sports education, laboratory, library, and instead of developing such schools these legislators adopt urban schools where all these facilities area provided."
