ANANTNAG, Aug 1: In total violation of the state High Court orders seeking preservation of environment in the Valley of shepherds (Pahalgam), Sajjad Lone's close aide has not only grabbed state land but constructed a hotel on it.
Official Sources told Early Times that influential land grabber occupied the land measuring 1 Kanal before two months and started constructing a hotel on it.
They identified the land grabber as Anwer Jan-resident of Samba Jammu- who according to them contested 2014 assembly elections from Pahalgam assembly segment on Peoples Conference ticket.
Sources said that influential land grabber managed to 'pressurize' the revenue officials for a long period and escape legal action. He also defied High Court's recent directions regarding preservation of state land with impunity. "Many BJP ministers and legislators ringed and pressurized us for a long period," a revenue official admitted, pleading anonymity.
He said that they have stopped the said construction work several times in the past week but the violator carries construction work in evenings and on holidays. Peoples Conference leader Anwer Jan on being contacted denied to have constructed the hotel. "I had only purchased the land a few months ago but as of now I don't own that. I have sold it again and the structure is being raised by Gull Pahadi," he added.
However, concerned revenue officials said that land grabber Anwer Jan was present at the construction site when they visited the area and stopped the work. "He was yesterday present at Hotel. He threatened us of dire consequences if we stopped his construction work," revenue official who is responsible in the area told Early Times.
Meanwhile, today few families residing in the area attacked a demolition squad which arrived in the area to demolish the structure. Eyewitness said that locals pelted stones on the SDM Pahalgam, SHO Pahalgam who were accompanying the squad. They said that in retaliation many locals including two women sustained injuries. Injured identified as Aabida and Gulshana were shifted to District Hospital for treatment where their condition is said to be stable.
"Today we visited twice the area along with the squad. At first they (Gujjar families) attacked our patwaries who sustained injuries. Later we arrived again in the area along with the personnel. Few goons hired by the land grabber attacked us with stones during which vehicle of SDM sustained damages," Tehsildar Pahalgam Abdul Gaffer told Early Times.
