DC Rajouri, others receive first batch of Buddha Amarnath Yatra

Jammu/Rajouri, Aug 19: The first batch of 9- day long Buddha Amarnath pilgrimage was flagged off at about 5.30 am from Bhagwati Nagar base camp at Jammu today and the first batch of yatra was received at Sunderbani and Rajouri by the district administration amid traditional religious rituals.
The batch of pilgrims led by Surinder Mohan Agarwal, in-charge Baba Budha Amar Nath Yatra Nayas and Vijay Verma , member of National unit of Bajrang Dal was received by Deepati Uppal, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, A K Attri, DIG Police, Dr Haseeb Mughal, SSP ,Vivodh Gupta, MLC and other senior officers of the administration.
The batch comprising 279 men, 196 female and 7 children travelling in 12 buses and 3 light vehicles was escorted to their onward pilgrimage to Shri Buddha Amarnath Shrine situated in Mandi of Poonch district. Pilgrims were offered snacks soon after they reached at Rajouri and left for Poonch after having lunch at Rajouri. Pertinent to mention that Rajouri unit of Baba Barfani Yatra Nayas headed by Sat Pal Sharma and assisted by Bajrang Dal and VHP district units, social organisations and especially with the help of District Administration have made elaborate arrangements at Army Ground for the welfare of the pilgrims.
Rajouri and Poonch police under the supervision of AK Attri, DIG Rajouri-Poonch range in assistance with Dr Haseeb Mughal , SSP Rajouri and J S Johar SSP Pponch have made elaborate security to the pilgrims enroute to Poonch district.
According to legends Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati had a brief halt at this place while on their way to Shri Amar Nath in Kashmir valley. According to another legend Pulastya Rishi while meditating in the Himalyas had virtual interaction (darshan) of Lord Shiva where the Holy shrine is situated. The shrine is situated on the bank of Pulasta River named after Ravna's grandfather Pulatsya Rishi has a pleasant and cool weather throughout the year.
As per local myth the shrine is older than Shri Amar Nath ( Kashmir) and pilgrimage to Shri Amarnath is incomplete without paying a visit to Shri Budha Amar Nath shrine.
Holy temple in its main structure houses one big rock having natural (self manifested) Shiv Lingam made of- white quartz. The temple has four doors symbolizing that the shrine is open for all the sections of the society.
