"We are living a nomadic life; sixteen people died while around two dozen residential houses were completely damaged. At least eighteen families are still living under open sky while as the government has done nothing for sufferers," said Mohammad Akbar Wani.
He said that they approached the local MLA on several occasions with their grievances however the pleas they made were overlooked.
"The families who suffered losses in terms of life and property were later evacuated by the government. Some were shifted to Panchayat Ghar while some were provided with make shift tents. Many families were also shifted to a government run school at Bazgoo Nilnag, now the fact of matter is that the Panchayat Ghar has few rooms wherein many families are residing at present besides the tents are of no use," added Wani. They demand the government to take immediate steps for early rehabilitation of all those affected by landslides besides taking tangible steps to mitigate their woes.
The Deputy Commissioner Budgam Mir Altaf, was not available. Somebody inhis office said the sahib DC was busy.
A resident Gulam Hassan Wani said that the school authorities have asked victims not to be there during working hours and they have to wait outside the school along with their household items till classes are over.
"This is enough, government should at least think about our families which include children, elderly people and females. Winter is approaching and the government is unconcerned about our rehabilitation," said Abdul Khaliq Wani.
