Demand for establishment of Machail Mata Board gains momentum
Amid heavy rush of pilgrims, Machail Chhari reaches Padder

Kishtwar Aug 19:- Amid heavy rush of pilgrims from different parts of the country, annual Machail yatra Chari (Mace) proceeded from Kishtwar for onwards journey to Machail Paddar and the Chhari today reached at Atholi from where it will leave for Massu tomorrow before reaching its final destination, Machail temple on Friday.
A pilgrim identified by police sources as 39 year old Joginder Paul son of Sham Lal resident of Reasi died due to acute dehydration while he was on his way to Machail. Even though police officials shifted him to nearby hospital and started his treatment, but he died soon after doctors started his treatment.
Shifting of Chhari from traditional route meanwhile sparked controversy as Nek Ram Manhas, at whose House the holy mace was kept overnight had contested last year assembly election from Kishtwar constituency on Congress ticket against BJP's Sunil Sharma (MoS Revenue, R&B). Locals alleged that political forces was behind the decision of shifting of Chari . The charges were denied by senior police officers and also by the various heads of Hindu religious organization who supported the decision.
Meanwhile the chorus among the people of Kishtwar District for the establishment of Machail Mata Shrine Board on the pattern of Amarnath Shrine Board and Vashnu Devi Shrine board gained momentum. The people while ruing the arrangements of the government said that due to ever increase in rush of Yatries, there is immediate need to constitute the shrine board for Machail Yatra along with Sarthal Devi temple so that required infrastructure could be developed for the benefit of the visiting pilgrims.
Earlier, after offering the Puja, Chhari Mubarak was taken on foot up to Wassar Lachkhazana and thereafter it was boarded into specially decorated vehicle for onwards journey towards Atholi Padder. Thousands of local people belonging to District Kishtwar and non locals accompanied the Chhari Mubarak chanting religious slogans and singing the Bhagans all the way.
As per the details, nearly one lac pilgrims have so far visited the Machail temple and offered pujja. During the course of 27 days yatra, more than 2 lac pilgrims were expected to visit the temple for seeking the blessing of goddess Matta Chandi .
