Jammu, Aug 18: The family members of an Autorickshaw driver, who died due to the alleged negligence of doctors, today staged a demonstration and blocked vehicular traffic at Maheshpura Chowk, placing the body in the middle of the road.
Demanding arrest of the doctors alleged to responsible for the death of the Autorickshaw driver, they held a protest.
The body was handed over to the family members for last rites after post-mortem. The protestors took it and went outside the hospital and blocked the vehicular movement at Maheshpura Chowk outside the GMCH.
The vehicular traffic was stopped for hours from 1.30 pm as the protesting family members and relatives were demanding action against the erring doctors.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent (MS) Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar today ordered suspension of Ashok Sharma senior pharmacist, Pharmacist Chand Ji Pandita and nursing orderly Rickson Gill and FIR has been registered against two doctors namely Dr Geetu Dutta and Dr Rashmi Sharma following protest demonstration by the relatives and family members of Anil Gupta who died allegedly due to the negligence of doctors.
"The staff members who were present on the duty were placed under suspension and enquiry against them has also been ordered," officials added.
Following assurance from the authorities about action against the erring employees, the protesters lifted their demonstration and dispersed peacefully.
Earlier, yesterday according to the family members, Anil Gupta who was an autoricksha driver had gone to RS Pura to drop a passenger and on his return, he fell ill.
"His blood pressure was low and he was admitted in the Government Gandhi Nagar hospital for treatment by some persons. Instead of providing him timely proper treatment, he was left alone and no treatment was provided by the doctors," alleged family members, who were angered over the death of their son.
They accused the doctors of negligence due to which they lost their son. "The doctors did not provide him proper treatment. The hospital slip showed that he was given no treatment and it shows negligence of the doctors leading to the death of our son," alleged an elderly woman, while holding protest.
As the situation turned tense, senior officials of the hospital and police rushed there and they tried to pacify the protesting family members. The body has been shifted to the mortuary for post mortem and other legal formalities, while as per the sources, a board of doctors would do a second post-mortem on the deceased. Till the filling of this report, the protest was on.
