Early Times Report Katra, Aug 19: Celebrating a decade of existence and excellence, the decadal celebrations began at the campus of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University with a deep sense of accomplishment yet relentless pursuit of excellence in all spheres. It was on 19th August, 2004, that the University was inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam and the first lecture was delivered by Dr. Kalam to the first batch of students. In this decade, the University has grown phenomenally in student strength, infrastructure and quality teaching and research. As part of the completion of one decade of existence, Eminent Lecture Series commenced in the Matrika auditorium amidst thunder and applause. As a curtain-raiser, the first lecture in the Series was delivered by Prof. D.P. Agrawal, Former Chairman, UPSC, and Professor (Retd.) from IIT Delhi. Prof. Agrawal is an eminent academician who has contributed significantly to the growth of quality technical education in the country and has immense research experience. As a Fellow of number of professional institutions in the country and abroad, Prof. Agrawal has played significant role in building various institutions of higher learning and was associated with the conceptualization and gestation period of SMVDU also. The first lecture of the Eminent Lecture Series was on the title, "Opportunities for Graduates in the New World Order". In an exhaustive talk, Prof. Agrawal enlightenedstudents about various unsung educational opportunities existing in the New World Order. Laying emphasis on the dire need of motivation and focus amongst students, Prof. Agrawal urged the youth to think out of the box ; move on the untrodden path and make consistent effort to reach the summit. Timeliness, Targets and Quality are the three eternal hallmarks which every student must try to develop. Elucidating various mantras of success in the New World Order, Prof. Agrawal dwelt over three pre-requisites of education which are, fostering creativity, inculcating versatility and developing professional skills.Concluding the Talk with the ever-inspiring thought of Vivekananda that Brahma lives in everyone, Prof. Agrawalsuggested one and all that the real potential lies within us and we can be creator, preserver of destroyer of our potential. Earlier, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, Vice-Chancellor SMVDU, formally welcomed the First Speaker of Eminent Lecture Series and shared his vision of the Series for making the Decadal celebration, the real occasion for introspection, retrospection and future plan of action. Prof. Verma, the Dean Faculty of Engineering gave the profile of Prof. Agrawal. The Talk concluded with an interactive session. All Deans, Registrar, Directors, faculty members and students participated in the Lecture. |
