5 students injured in JU clash

Jammu, Aug 19 : Five students were injured in a clash with the security guards while protesting against JKSSRB and demanding immediate revocation of Urdu descriptive test from NT exam on Wednesday outside the University of Jammu.
Students of ABVP alleged that on the direction of higher ups, the security guards of the Jammu University beat five students when they were returning to university.
Four students, Akhilesh Khajuria, Lakhan Jamwal, Deepak Gupta and Madhu Sharma sustained minor injuries while Kapil Sharma has abdominal injuries. All the injured were admitted in Gandhi Nagar hospital.
One of the injured told that, when they were closing the gate of Varsity, where a cash erupted between security and students.
"Later, the security guards come to us for compromise but when four to five students reached near the security guards room, they suddenly attacked them with lathis causing injuries to five of them, "he said adding if the students were violent the police should have taken action against them.
When this issue was taken up with Dean Students Welfare, Dr PK Srivastava denied the allegation of use of force on students, saying security guards were doing their job.
Earlier, Students from various departments of Jammu University boycotted their classes and staged protest against JKSSRB for the Youth of Jammu and Laddakh region and they demanded immediate revocation of Urdu as compulsory descriptive paper for the post of Naib Tehsildars exam.
They rejected the JKSSRB's decision of including Urdu as a compulsory descriptive subject with a weightage of 30 marks in the syllabus of written test for the post of Naib Tehsildar.
They further said that ABVP is not against Urdu or any language but we are against injustice to student community. They questioned SSRB that if there is no criteria of Urdu language for KAS, Sub Inspecter, Tehsildar and even to become a Judge in Jammu- Kashmir. They warned the state authorities for immediate revocation of 30 marks Urdu in Naib Tehsildar exam otherwise ABVP will be forced to launch a state wide agitation, and JKSSRB and State Govt. will be responsible for the consequences.
