Police bosses adopting unfair means to regularise SPOs working as their domestic helps

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 30: Some senior police officers of the rank of SSPs and above are alleged to be adopting unfair means in J&K to get regularised the SPOs (Special Police Officers) who are working at their residences as domestic servants.
These SPOs do every menial job for them. They massage their bodies, mop the floors of their houses, wash their clothes, bring vegetables for them from the market and also cook food but draw their salaries from the Government Treasury.
In lieu of their services, these officers have now started the process of getting them regularised through fraudulent means. While they would continue to work at their residences, in police records, they would be shown working in militancy affected areas, police sources said.
Their names would then be included in the list of cops who take part in encounters with militants. On the basis of their "good performance" in these gun battles, their names would be recommended to the police headquarters for regularisation, the sources added.
This way, the fraudulent process of their regularisation would be completed, sources alleged.
Sources said there were scores of SPOs who were working at the residences of senior police officers and their relatives as domestic servants.
There was an immediate need to take them back from the police officers and post them in police stations, the sources added, saying they were posted to assist cops in various state police wings and not to become the "bonded" labours of their officers.
