Jammu, Oct 27: Is J&K Health Minister inherently against women….? Habitual of courting controversies, his acts and the behaviour always involved women whom he hit one way or the other. It may be just a matter of coincidence , yet the fact remains whenever he created controversies post assuming the charge as PDP-BJP alliance Government's Health Minister, the issues were linked with the women folk, the latest one being his statement on sex determination tests, which is a shocker for the women folk. Health Minister remained in news many times during NC-Congress coalition Government over a host of issues. In the present dispensation too he could not resist the temptation of being in news with his conspicuous conduct, seen most of time as unbecoming of any person occupying the chair of a Minister. Just two weeks after taking his oath in February this year, he landed in a controversy after a woman doctor filed a complaint against him, accusing him of "mental harassment amounting to outraging modesty". The female doctor in fact went too far in her fight against the Health Minister from the BJP camp and she got an overwhelming support in her struggle not only through the mainstream media but the issue remained a rage and topic of hot discussions on the social media too.
After a gap of few months, ahead of Amarnath Yatra , the Health Minister created a controversy this time again involving a woman doctor. He was caught on camera for what was seen as 'inappropriately' touching a woman doctor at a Government hospital in Lakhanpur where he had gone to take stock of preparedness of the hospitals for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims. It was the picture of the Minister touching the collar of a female doctor while others watched that went viral on Twitter and Facebook. This time however, there was some uproar at the political level from opponents as the opposition demanded action against the Minister.
Health Minister faced some heat in other matter when a formal complaint too was lodged in which the complainant alleged that she was standing with other hospital staff when the Minister walked towards her and asked her why wasn't she wearing her lab coat. Even though she replied that as it was a social function where it was not required, the Minister, according to the complainant, shouted at her arguing that it was an official function. This tone and tenor also reflected arrogance of the Health Minister against the females.
All these incidents drew sharp criticism against the State's Health Minister from common masses as also on the media. Yet he made a controversial statement recently saying that sex determination tests should be allowed in the State when there is law in place banning such practice. This one is also being seen by the women out and out against the women folk. |
