8 Accession day Mir adds to Congress woes in Jammu
10/28/2015 1:07:40 PM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 27: The Congress leaders from Jammu province had been trying hard to recapture the political space their party lost in the region to the BJP in the 2014 general elections as well as Assembly elections by exposing what they called "BJP's anti-Jammu credentials and policies".
During the past nearly eight months, the Congress leadership from Jammu region held a number of anti-BJP demonstrations, including the one recently held in front of the BJP headquarters (Pt Prem Nath Dogra Bhawan), burnt the effigies of the BJP Ministers and also extended overt and covert support to the activities organized by other groups, including the now-defunct and unpopular AIIMS Coordination Committee. They did all this to establish that they were pro-Jammu people and that they represented the national interest in the State. However, the controversial JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a Kashmiri, and two BJP national spokespersons Tom Badakkan and Mohammad Ali Khan, on Monday undid all what the Congress leaders from Jammu province had done during the past eight months to strike a chord with the people of this province by opposing the BJP and its policies. Mir, Badakkan and Khan all denounced those who celebrated the Accession Day as a historic day in the political history of Jammu & Kashmir, as also in the political history of India. They condemned as divisive and communal those who for right reasons celebrated the Accession day with a great pomp and show to establish that Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of India as the accession with India was final, irrevocable and unconditional. They shamelessly claimed that there were several stakeholders in the State, who speak in different languages, and by celebrating the Accession day they only polarized the State society. "There is no reason why should Congress celebrate the Accession Day," they said.
Mir made the ridiculous and provocative statement in Srinagar and Badakkan and Khan made the despicable statements in Delhi. They established through their nasty statements that the stand of the Congress on Jammu & Kashmir was no different from that of the Kashmiri separatists, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah and others of their ilk, as also from the National Conference, which the same day described the Accession Day as a "Black Day" in the history of Jammu & Kashmir. The stand which the JKPCC chief and Congress national spokespersons took on the Accession Day and the manner in which they condemned those who celebrated it have been taken note of in Jammu. Indeed, by taking the stand Mir, Badakkan and Khan took on the State's Accession to India, they have upset the applecart of the Congress leaders from Jammu. The nationalist constituency in the State will never forgive the Congress for the crime it committed on an auspicious day to express solidarity with Kashmiri separatists.
