Ajatshatru still an outsider in BJP?
10/28/2015 1:10:41 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 27: Despite him joining the saffron brigade last year and getting nominated as MLC, former Minister in then Farooq Abdullah Government and scion of erstwhile Dogra rulers, Ajatshatru Singh is still considered an outsider in the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party.
This became evident during the BJP function on the eve of Accession Day at Jammu as the party went to the extent of not even inviting Ajatshatru Singh in the said programme, which was organized especially near the life-size statue of Maharaja Hari Singh near Tawi Bridge.
According to the sources in BJP circles, the organizers of this programme were allegedly directed by some senior leaders of the party not to invite Ajatshatru Singh, grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, in the said programme notwithstanding availability of the latter in Jammu on the day. However, displaying his political maturity, Mr Ajatshatru not only joined the programme without invitation but also raised the demand for Bharat Ratna to the Maharaja thus stealing limelight and news headline, sources added.
Sources close to Ajatshatru Singh disclosed that this was not for the first time when an attempt was made to keep him away from important events and meetings, particularly with the top BJP leaders of Centre and RSS functionaries.
However, on the other hand, a senior BJP leader on the condition of anonymity alleged that despite joining the saffron brigade, Ajatshatru Singh has yet to probe his credentials as a true sympathizer of Jammu people. Keeping in view of his (Ajatshatru) past political affiliations and shifting of loyalties, the party can not entrust him with important responsibilities, the BJP leader explained.
It may be recalled that Mr Ajatshatru had started his political career with National Conference and remained a Minister in then Farooq Abdullah Government. In 2004, he joined Congress but after some time, went back to NC. Before the last Assembly elections in J&K, he embraced the saffron brigade and was later nominated to Upper House.
