8 months on, BJP Ministers yet to learn tricks of the trade
10/28/2015 1:07:58 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 27: Even after passing of eight months, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ministers are finding it hard to fit themselves in the system. Many junior Ministers of the saffron party are unaware about how their ministries are being run.
The Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar making an honest assertion that he has never been taken into confidence since the day he has assumed the office has proved the critics right that BJP Ministers are nothing more than second fiddles.
Highly placed sources told Early Times that officials also don't take BJP junior Ministers seriously. "Officials directly report to the senior Ministers and don't even bother to apprise the junior Ministers about what is happening around them," sources added. They said BJP Ministers are least interested in administrative affairs. "They (BJP) Ministers during the summer months preferred staying away from the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar and did not attend the office. They were busy reaping fruits of power and enjoying leisure trips," sources added.
Insiders revealed that BJP high command had taken serious note about party Ministers skipping the office and not remaining accessible to people. "Despite being reprimanded by the party high command BJP Ministers didn't mend their ways," sources said.
"BJP Ministers act more like local MLAs. The lackadaisical attitude of the BJP Ministers has proved to be the blessing in disguise for the PDP Ministers as they have turned into real bosses and are calling the shots. BJP has no say in the crucial administrative matters," said an insider.
He said even the BJP cabinet Ministers have proved to be "poor administrators." "They BJP Ministers believe that issuing transfer orders and dictating terms to the police officials are the only ways to establish their writ and to prove that they are the bosses," the insider claimed.
The portfolios held by BJP senior Ministers are not that important. "One major reason for BJP Ministers losing interests in their jobs is that they hold unimportant portfolios. Another factor for BJP Ministers becoming irrelevant is that they don't enjoy close proximity with the Chief Minister. They (BJP Ministers) have not tried to build cordial relationship with the Chief Minister during the past eight months," the insider added.
He said, "BJP high command has taken a serious note about party Ministers not being at talking terms with each other. Till date BJP Ministers have not sat at one place to discuss the policy matters. They acting like monarchs and not paying any attention towards making the party strong has annoyed the high command in New Delhi. There is every possibility of BJP Ministers being reshuffled after the results of Bihar elections would be declared."
