Modi to visit Srinagar, skip Jammu on Nov 7
'BJP has failed winter capital'
10/28/2015 1:11:30 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 27: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi who is scheduled to address a mega rally in Srinagar on November 7 during his daylong visit of the State is likely to skip Jammu City.
Sources said the PM Modi has been persuaded to address a mega rally in Srinagar. BJP leaders have not shown any enthusiasm to convince the Prime Minister to visit the winter capital, which voted his party to power in Jammu and Kashmir.
Insiders in the BJP said the party has miserably failed to come up to the expectations of the people of Jammu and that the biggest embarrassment has been the failure of the Central Government in the establishment of much-needed AIIMS in the region.
Till now forget any construction work, the State Government has failed even in the identification of land for AIIMS in Jammu though land for AIIMS in Srinagar stands identified.
Since the new government came to power, not a single project under execution in Jammu region has been able to meet the deadline. The BJP couldn't even ensure timely completion of expansion of the Jammu airport, though the work was slated to be completed by September. Due to sluggish work and lack of requisite review meetings which were to be chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, who leads the BJP team from Jammu in the state cabinet, the development projects have been missing the deadlines.
Besides failure in timely execution of works, the BJP even initially hindered the ongoing construction of artificial lake on river Tawi. It was only after the people raised a hue and cry that the work was resumed. But that too continues to be sluggish.
"Frankly speaking we have no big achievement in Jammu City to project during the Prime Minister's visit because even the allotment of the AIIMS is pending," said a BJP insider.
As per PDP leadership, the prime minister is expected address a public rally in Srinagar at SK Stadium in the afternoon of November 7.
Modi will also inaugurate phase-2 of the Baghlihar hydro-electric power project in the Jammu region, the sources said, adding PM Modi is expected to announce a developmental package for the state.
It is expected the prime minister will announce a development/flood relief package during this visit, the sources said.
This will be PM Modi's first visit to the Kashmir Valley after the present PDP-BJP alliance took power in the state on March 1, 2015. However Modi visited Jammu on July 17 in connection with the birth anniversary of Congress leader, late Girdhari Lal Dogra.
That time the BJP leadership had assured the people of Jammu on establishment of AIIMS in the region.
Thereafter the demand for AIIMS again went into rough weather and Jammu went for 3-day Bandh. Subsequently in the first week of August, the central government asked the state to identify pieces of land each to establish AIIMS in both the regions.
That time Abhinav Sharma, Chaiman, Coordination Committee, which was spreading the protests called off the agitation following assurance from the government. But since then, there has been no breakthrough.
